OpenAI used DevDay 2026 on September 29, 2026 to ship always-on Dots agents, a new Pro 500 ChatGPT plan at $500 per month (USD list price), GPT-6.1 Sol, among more than 20 major announcements across ChatGPT, Codex, the API, and plugins. The company's recap called it "our biggest yet."

OpenAI’s event schedule listed the San Francisco opening keynote for 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, featuring Sam Altman. OpenAI's recap said ChatGPT reaches 1.2 billion weekly users.

#What did OpenAI announce at DevDay 2026?

OpenAI grouped the day's launches under five headings. The items below are the ones listed on its recap page as of September 29, 2026.

#Always-on agents and a collaborative workspace

Dots are always-on agents powered by GPT-6 Astra. OpenAI says they have their own cloud computer, learn from feedback, and connect through plugins to over 4,000 apps. You can reach a dot in ChatGPT, Slack, or Microsoft Teams, and hop on a voice call. Rollout started the same day for Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets; Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare users can try a beta when a workspace admin turns it on. It is off by default.

ChatGPT Space is a shared home for teammates, ChatGPT, and a dot. Pages are documents built for people and agents to edit together. Collaborative slides are listed as coming in the following weeks. Create teams and share tasks is available to Business and Enterprise plans. @ChatGPT in Slack and Microsoft Teams lets people mention ChatGPT in a channel, thread, or DM without every teammate needing an individual ChatGPT license.

The Meetings plugin takes notes and saves summaries with action items in Space. OpenAI says audio is deleted once notes are ready. It is in beta in the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS for Pro and Business, with Enterprise coming soon.

#Models, speed, and Private Intelligence

GPT-6.1 Sol upgrades GPT-6 Sol for agentic coding, computer use, and professional work. OpenAI says it delivers near-Astra intelligence at one-fifth of Astra's standard input and output token prices. It is in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu, and in the API as gpt-6.1-sol at USD $2 per million input tokens, $0.10 per million cached input tokens, and $10 per million output tokens.

Ultrafast offers up to 8 times faster token generation (300 tokens per second) in Codex and up to 6 times in the API. GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is on the API and on ChatGPT Work and Codex for Pro 500 and Enterprise. GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast is listed as coming soon.

Private Intelligence adds Zero Data Retention with Private Safety Processing. A preview of Private Inference is listed for this fall.

#Codex, the Agents API, and AWS

OpenAI put Codex in the cloud so tasks can run from a computer, a phone, or any device, including while a laptop is closed. The Codex CLI gained voice steering and an /agents view. Code Review in the desktop app summarizes diffs and can take a first pass in the cloud. Codex Security Cloud scans GitHub repositories and prepares fixes, with Daybreak Blue models inside that product.

The Agents API now supports computer use, plus Codex-style multi-agent work, tool search, tool calling, and context compaction. OpenAI and Amazon announced Bedrock Managed Agents so those agents can run in AWS. A Decisions API uses Luna on a finite set of answers; it is in limited preview.

#Plugins, Sign in with ChatGPT, and Marketplace

Plugin extensions let developers put a plugin in the ChatGPT sidebar, build interactive panels, and add file viewers. Plugin Creator and a redesigned submission flow are live. Sites can host plugins on Business, Enterprise, Healthcare, and Edu. MCP events can start an automation when something happens in a connected app.

Sign in with ChatGPT lets eligible Plus and Pro users spend plan allowance in 16 partner tools, including Cognition's Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw, and Dactyl. Identity is described as available globally.

OpenAI Marketplace lets eligible enterprise customers apply part of an existing OpenAI commitment toward approved partner software. OpenAI listed 32 first partners, including Adobe, Figma, Sierra, HubSpot, Salesforce, Harvey, and CrowdStrike.

#What changed in ChatGPT subscriptions?

Pro 500 is a new $500 per month (USD) Pro plan. OpenAI's recap says it includes 25 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance and Ultrafast. Among Pro plans, Ultrafast is available only on Pro 500. Pro 200 is open to new subscribers again at $200 per month, with a lower included usage allowance for subscriptions that are not grandfathered through October 29, 2026.

Your first dot is included in Pro or Business Premium at no extra cost. Conversations with a dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits. Codex or ChatGPT Work tasks a dot starts do count as usual. For the next month, OpenAI says dots usage will not count toward eligible Pro, Business, and Enterprise plan allowances.
