OpenAI and Oracle announced on October 27, 2026 that they "are bringing Oracle applications and data into ChatGPT and powering new Oracle products and services with OpenAI models and products." The ChatGPT piece is not out: OpenAI says "Oracle is developing Oracle AI Workspace to bring that vision into ChatGPT through integrations with Oracle applications and data." Neither company has given a date or a price for it in the sources we checked.

#What changed?

#Oracle AI Workspace in ChatGPT

OpenAI describes the plan through an example, not a product list: "a new finance team member could use ChatGPT to investigate costs, understand purchasing decisions, and identify what remains before month-end close." In OpenAI's words, "The intended experience would bring information from finance, procurement, and planning applications together, helping more employees use Oracle software within their organization’s permissions and approvals."

OpenAI says: "The goal is to let people describe what they need to accomplish, find the right information, and complete approved business workflows in one place." It adds a goal of "simpler administration, unified sign-in, and access governed by each organization’s permissions and approvals."

OpenAI's post does not name specific Oracle products, which ChatGPT plans get it, or which regions.

#New Oracle offerings built with OpenAI

OpenAI says "Oracle is announcing updates and new offerings built with OpenAI models and tools". None has a date or price in OpenAI's post.

  • Oracle App Composer. "Oracle App Composer is designed to help teams build apps with Codex and other AI tools, connect them to approved Oracle data and workflows, and share them across their organization." OpenAI adds: "Oracle manages deployment on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, with company permissions and access controls built in."
  • Oracle AI Security Mesh. It "is designed to help customers find and fix vulnerabilities in applications and infrastructure using OpenAI cyber models."
  • Oracle AI SMB Bundle. It "combines ChatGPT Business and Codex with Oracle applications and recurring Oracle Cloud Infrastructure credits to help small businesses build products and manage operations." OpenAI does not give the credit amount.

CNBC described the deal from the other direction, as bringing "ChatGPT and Codex into the software maker's applications". Both are true of the announcement: AI Workspace brings Oracle into ChatGPT, while App Composer and Security Mesh run on Oracle's side.

#Buying OpenAI through Oracle Marketplace

OpenAI's October 27 post says: "Oracle customers in the U.S. can purchase access to the OpenAI API, Codex, and ChatGPT Work through Oracle Marketplace, using existing procurement processes and eligible Oracle Universal Credits."

That is a restatement, not a new launch. OpenAI first announced it on August 7, 2026: "Oracle customers can now purchase access to OpenAI models through the API, Codex, and ChatGPT Work through Oracle Marketplace". At the time it said: "OpenAI offerings on Oracle Marketplace are currently available in the United States, with additional regions coming soon." OpenAI has given no date for other regions.

#Chips on Oracle's cloud (CNBC)

These details come from CNBC's report:

  • CNBC reported: "Oracle said OCI will add Google TPUs, OpenAI's Jalapeño chip and Cerebras hardware as customers seek more silicon options."
  • CNBC wrote: "It is the first time Google's custom chips will run on another hyperscaler's cloud". That is CNBC's claim.
  • On Cerebras, CNBC reported: "The Cerebras deal is material, but the AI chipmaker won't be disclosing the scale because it's in a quiet period, a Cerebras spokesperson said."
  • Asked whether this is a pivot away from Nvidia, Mahesh Thiagarajan, Oracle's president of Cloud Infrastructure, "said no, adding that Nvidia chips are "the best, most fungible,"" CNBC reported.

CNBC gave no timing or prices for the new chips on OCI.

CNBC also reported that Thiagarajan "said his team observed OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model get trained at Oracle's Stargate data center campus in Abilene, Texas". For more on that model, see our GPT-6 Astra guide.

#How Oracle uses ChatGPT and Codex

OpenAI says: "Oracle reported 130,000 active ChatGPT users and more than 95,000 active Codex users." OpenAI also says Oracle's "recruiting team uses ChatGPT Work for market research that once took two to four days to compile", and that preparation takes 15 to 20 minutes. OpenAI says the partnership "builds on our commercial relationship across the OpenAI API, ChatGPT Work, and Codex." The customer story OpenAI published on October 8, 2026 has more detail.

CNBC quoted Greg Brockman, president and co-founder of OpenAI, from the press release: "More businesses are choosing OpenAI as we make it easier to put AI to work through the tools and systems they already use,"

#How does it compare?

Like the Google Cloud route, Oracle Marketplace lets companies pay for OpenAI through an existing cloud commitment. Oracle AI Workspace goes further by putting Oracle business data inside ChatGPT, but it is still in development. For how Codex and ChatGPT agents differ, see Dots vs ChatGPT agent vs Codex.

Our analysis: The parts of this announcement that matter most to Oracle customers, AI Workspace and App Composer, are described as "developing" and "designed to", with no dates or prices. The part customers can use, Marketplace purchasing in the US, has been available since August 7, 2026.

#What is still unclear?

  • AI Workspace timing, price and plans. None given.
  • Which Oracle products. OpenAI names functions, not products.
  • App Composer, AI Security Mesh and SMB Bundle availability. No dates, regions or prices from OpenAI.
  • Marketplace regions. No date for regions beyond the US.
  • Chip timing on OCI. CNBC gives none.
