The short answer
- OpenAI added separate iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar plugins to ChatGPT on October 27, 2026. Both include read-only contact lookup.
- OpenAI's help center says they are rolling out globally to all ChatGPT plans on web, desktop and iOS, subject to workspace app controls. Engadget says free accounts are included.
- You connect with an Apple app-specific password, not your regular Apple password. Apple requires two-factor authentication to create one.
- Disconnecting in ChatGPT does not revoke the password at Apple; OpenAI says to revoke it separately.
- Engadget reports that a Pro subscriber's Dot can also use either plugin. OpenAI's general rule is that plugin connections are shared with Dots.

#What changed?
The release notes entry for October 27, 2026 says: "iCloud users can now connect Mail and Calendar to ChatGPT to find emails, catch up on your inbox, check your schedule, and update calendar events." The @ChatGPT post on X called them "Much requested".
- Two plugins. "iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar are separate plugins, and both include read-only contact lookup."
- Sending and editing. OpenAI's troubleshooting page covers what to do "If an iCloud send or calendar edit has an unclear result".
- Not included. "Standalone Contacts and Reminders plugins are outside this launch."
- iCloud only. Engadget notes the plugins "will only give ChatGPT access to the messages and calendar events associated with Apple's services".
The release notes and the X post say the plugins are available on all plans; the help center says they are rolling out, so some accounts may not see them on October 27, 2026. Engadget wrote that ChatGPT will work with either service "regardless of whether you have a free account or pay for a ChatGPT subscription." We found no Apple statement on the launch.
#How do you connect iCloud to ChatGPT?
OpenAI says "iCloud uses an Apple app-specific password in its connection form." Apple says your Apple Account "must be protected with two-factor authentication" to create one. The steps, from OpenAI and Apple:
- Sign in at account.apple.com and select App-Specific Passwords in the Sign-In and Security section.
- Create a password for ChatGPT.
- In ChatGPT, open Settings > Plugins and select iCloud Mail or iCloud Calendar.
- For Mail, enter your iCloud Mail address ending in @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com. For Calendar, enter your primary Apple Account email address, which may differ from your Mail address.
- Enter the app-specific password in the connection form.
OpenAI says: "do not use your regular Apple password or paste a password into the conversation." It also says: "Connect iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar separately if you want both services."
#Disconnecting and passwords
- "Disconnecting an iCloud connection in ChatGPT does not revoke its password at Apple." OpenAI says to "Use Apple's app-specific password controls to revoke it separately."
- Apple says "You can have up to 25 active app-specific passwords."
- Changing or resetting your main Apple password revokes all app-specific passwords, per Apple. OpenAI says to "create a replacement app-specific password first" before reconnecting.
#What controls and privacy settings apply?
OpenAI says "App permission settings determine when ChatGPT asks before reading information or taking an action." It warns: "Allow all actions carries elevated risk because supported actions may run without another confirmation."
On training, OpenAI says: "For ChatGPT Free, Plus, Go, and Pro users: OpenAI may use information accessed from apps to train our models if your “Improve the model for everyone” setting is on." For Business, Enterprise and Edu, OpenAI says it "does not use information accessed from apps to train models by default." If Memory is on, ChatGPT "may remember relevant information accessed from the app".
For workspaces, OpenAI's general admin rules, which do not mention iCloud, say "In ChatGPT Business, apps are enabled by default". OpenAI also says "App use may count toward your ChatGPT plan limits".
#What about Dots?
Engadget reported: "If you pay for OpenAI's Pro plan, your Dot, the company's AI agent, can also use either plugin." OpenAI has not named iCloud on its Dots pages. Its general rule is that "Plugin permissions are shared across dots, ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex", though its Dots guide says "Available apps may differ."
Things to know before giving a Dot your inbox, from OpenAI's Dots FAQ and guide:
- A Dot "can also review that information proactively and form memories from it".
- "Disconnecting an app does not delete information your dot has already obtained from it."
- "Custom Rules let you set additional boundaries for dots, such as telling your dot never to send emails."
- Before a Dot sends an email, "Auto-review checks the recipient and message".
- OpenAI's Dots password protections "don’t cover passwords you share separately in a chat or document, or through a plugin."
OpenAI says Dots are rolling out to Pro users aged 18 and older outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK, and are also available to Business Premium users in supported regions. For setup, see our guides on setting up your first Dot and Dots privacy and admin controls, and our Dots launch story.
Our analysis: These are the first iCloud plugins in ChatGPT's release notes we read, which matters for iPhone users who keep mail and calendars with Apple rather than Google. Because a Dot can read connected apps proactively and keep what it learns, it is worth setting Custom Rules and approval settings before connecting iCloud.
#What is still unclear?
- Android. Not listed, and no date.
- Calendar actions. OpenAI names finding, checking and updating, but publishes no full list of calendar actions.
- Admin controls. OpenAI's admin page predates the launch and does not say whether iCloud has separate read and write controls.
- Dots on other plans. No OpenAI page says whether Business Premium Dots get iCloud.
