The short answer
- Apple announced on October 27, 2026 an intelligent assistant (beta) in Keynote, Pages and Numbers, built on Apple models and OpenAI, for Apple Creator Studio subscribers.
- Apple says the updates arrive on the App Store in November 2026, free for existing subscribers; new subscribers pay $12.99 (U.S.) a month or $129 (U.S.) a year.
- New MCP support lets external AI agents and tools read content, perform edits and run automated actions in the three apps, Apple says. It requires macOS 27 or later.
- The assistant needs an Apple Intelligence-capable device on iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 or later, and is U.S. English only.
- Apple's App Store release notes for version 15.4.1, dated October 22, 2026, already list the Intelligent Assistant (Beta) for subscribers.
Apple announced on October 27, 2026 that Keynote, Pages and Numbers get "an intelligent assistant, built on Apple models and OpenAI," as a beta feature for Apple Creator Studio subscribers. The three apps also get Model Context Protocol (MCP) support that lets outside AI agents work inside them. Apple says the updates "will be available on the App Store this November as a free update for existing subscribers." New subscribers pay $12.99 (U.S.) per month or $129 (U.S.) per year.
#What changed?
Apple says the apps "introduce new AI features in beta, including assistants that understand document context and new Model Context Protocol (MCP) support for workflow automation." Apple's description of the assistant in each app:
- Keynote: "In Keynote, the intelligent assistant helps with designing, animating, and refining slides."
- Pages: "In Pages, it drafts, restructures, and fine-tunes written content."
- Numbers: "In Numbers, it calculates, visualizes, and organizes data; recommends suitable chart types with a one-tap preview; and builds custom tables using world knowledge."
Apple says: "The assistant understands document context to help users accomplish more without leaving their work." Apple does not name which OpenAI model is used.
Logic Pro for Mac gets its own assistant, which Apple describes as "powered by a combination of Apple-built models and OpenAI."
#MCP support
In Apple's words: "New MCP support, built on this platform, enables external AI agents and tools to read content, perform edits, and execute automated actions directly in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers." A footnote adds: "Model Context Protocol (MCP) in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers requires macOS 27 or later."
Keynote also adds "Keynote Interchange Format (.keyx), an open JSON-based bundle file format designed to be readable and accessible to external tools, developer workflows, and AI agents." Keynote's App Store notes list .keyx under "For Everyone" and mark it beta.
The Verge reported the launch and wrote that the assistant "is built on AI models from Apple and OpenAI".
Our analysis: MCP support turns Apple's own document apps into targets that third-party agents can read and edit, not just a place for Apple's assistant. Apple has not published setup steps, a list of supported agents or how permissions work, so how that plays out is unclear.
#Who can use it and when?
- Timing. Apple says "this November", with no exact date. The Verge also says November.
- Subscribers. Apple calls the assistant one of the "intelligence features for subscribers". New subscribers get "a one-month free trial", and buyers of a new Mac or qualifying iPad can get three months free, Apple says.
- Devices and language. "The assistant (beta) in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers requires an Apple Intelligence-capable device running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 or later, and is available in U.S. English only."
- MCP. Mac only, on macOS 27 or later. Apple does not say whether MCP also needs a subscription.
- Accounts. Apple Support says: "The Apple Account must be a personal account to subscribe, not a Managed Apple Account."
- Free apps. "Free versions of Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform continue to be available and are included with every new iPhone, Mac, and iPad."
#What the App Store notes say
Apple's App Store notes for Keynote, Pages and Numbers 15.4.1, dated October 22, 2026, already list the assistant. The Numbers notes label it "For Apple Creator Studio Subscribers: Intelligent Assistant (Beta)*". The notes describe:
- Keynote: "Build your story, add animations, and refine your slides with an assistant that understands your presentation"
- Pages: "Draft a section, adjust your tone, or generate images and shapes using natural language"
- Numbers: "Generate tables, get chart suggestions, and get help with formulas using natural language"
These are the release notes' words. Apple's press release says the updates arrive in November, so the notes do not mean the assistant is live.
#Pricing
Plan | Price (U.S.) |
|---|---|
Monthly | $12.99 |
Yearly | $129 |
Education, monthly | $2.99 |
Education, yearly | $29.99 |
Apple says "Up to six family members can share all of the apps and content included in Apple Creator Studio with Family Sharing." Apple Support says prices vary by region. After cancelling, Apple Support says, "you'll still have access to Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform but without the intelligence features included in the subscription."
#How does it compare?
MCP is the protocol Anthropic donated to the Agentic AI Foundation, covered in our piece on the AAIF's four new projects and our MCP reference servers v2 coverage. For Apple's other assistant update in October 2026, see iOS 27.2's Siri AI changes.
#What is still unclear?
- Exact date. Apple says only November.
- Which OpenAI model. Apple's text does not name one.
- MCP details. There is no list of supported agents, no setup guide and no word on permissions.
- Regions. Apple gives U.S. prices and U.S. English only.
